First is a 1971 Continental Mark III, (Lincoln) which I have owned since 1985.
The car was marketed as a Continental and was the brainchild of Lee Iacocca who, after his success with the Mustang, wanted to market a car which would revive the fortunes of the Lincoln Division of FoMoCo.
It was called the Continental Mark III, so as to follow on in the tradition of the hand built Continental Mark II of 1956, and had all the styling cues of the Mark II, with its long hood and short rear deck as well as a few baroque ones!
This was the first Lincoln to out-sell Cadillac, and, being the being the top of the range, was the direct competitor for the Eldorado |
