Hi all,

Heard on the radio today that the Top Gear live shows are not owned by the BBC (only for royalties for the use of the "brand") and as such the termination of Clarkson from the TV show apparently has no bearing on his contract for the live shows. So allegedly the show is most likely to go on............................ some say!

Top Gear Live: good news for ticket-holders

Good news if you’re a ticket-holder for Top Gear Live: it has today been confirmed that the 2015 world tour will go ahead, renamed Clarkson, Hammond and May Live.

BBC Worldwide has announced that, in the best interests of those who have already purchased tickets, the live arena show will go on with its original three presenters, but without the Top Gear name or BBC branding.

“So as not to disappoint the thousands of people around the world who have already purchased tickets, BBC Worldwide has agreed with our joint venture partner Brand Events that the remainder of the tour can continue,” said a spokeman. “These events will not, however, feature any BBC Top Gear branding or content. We believe this is a sensible approach in the circumstances.”

It has also been confirmed that the live shows due to take place in Stavanger, Norway last weekend have been rescheduled to 20-21 June. The Festival that had been planned to run in Sydney, Australia in April will become an indoor arena show, staged in Melbourne on 18-19 July, and Sydney on 25-26 July. Full details of the tour will be confirmed to ticket-holders in their local markets.

The 2015 tour will end in November at London’s O2 Arena.

“This is a great solution for the fans,” said a spokesman for Brand Events. “We’d like to thank our ticket-holders for their continued patience. The fans are the most important people to Jeremy, Richard and James, so we’re delighted to be able to say, ‘We’re still coming’…”

No-one from Australia has confirmed it, but overseas reports claim Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond are coming – but the show won’t be called Top Gear.

The Top Gear Festival Sydney will go ahead in Australia and Jeremy Clarkson IS coming, even though he has been sacked by the BBC from the hit TV show.

BBC Worldwide has agreed that the show can go on but without BBC or Top Gear branding.

A BBC Worldwide spokesman said the shows would go ahead "so as not to disappoint the thousands of people around the world who have already purchased tickets," according to news agency Agence France Presse.

"These events will not however feature any BBC Top Gear branding or content. We believe this is a sensible approach in the circumstances," the AFP quoted a BBC Worldwide spokesman as saying.

It will be the first time all three presenters — Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May — will make the trek Down Under for the performance; the previous Australian Top Gear Live shows only had two of the three presenters, but always with Clarkson as the main host.

“It will be the first time all three presenters — Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May — will make the trek Down Under.„

News Corp Australia understands all four stakeholders stood to lose millions of dollars — and thousands of fans would have been entitled to refunds — if the show did not go ahead as planned.

However there is some confusion as to the dates for the Australian shows.

Overseas reports claim the Top Gear Live dates have been bumped from April 18 and 19, even though the tickets are still on sale for the original dates.

AFP reports the new shows will be held in Melbourne on July 18-19 and Sydney on July 25-26.

The tour dates that were cancelled in Norway, the first live show to be dropped, have reportedly been rescheduled for June 20-21.

Organisers called it "a great solution for the fans".

BBC Worldwide is one of four stakeholders behind the Australian event, along with the NSW Government, the Sydney Motorsport Park venue, and logistics company Brand Events.

Dear Members

Please refer to the official statement received from event organisers:

The organisers of Top Gear Festival, Sydney would like to thank ticket holders and fans for their continued patience. We are now in a position to inform you that, following a BBC Worldwide statement regarding the global Top Gear Live dates, the forthcoming event is to be postponed until July this year. We do sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this will cause.

We do however subsequently have much better news… we can now confirm that the new event, which will now be in an Arena format will star Jeremy, Richard and James - simply titled ‘Clarkson, Hammond and May Live’ and will be staged in both Sydney and Melbourne. They’ll be plenty of the stunts, supercars, challenges and the irreverent humour you know and love from the trio - just no BBC Top Gear branding. These shows will now take place in Melbourne on the 18-19 July and in Sydney on the 25-26 July.

Festival tickets can be exchanged for the new look show once tickets go on sale (this on-sale date will be announced on Friday 10th April) and all ticket holders will be given a dedicated period in which to exchange or refund previously purchased tickets.

Email received from event organiser:

What does that mean for the AMCCA? Well, unfortunately the car club display for the event has been postponed indefinitely. We will be meeting with the organisers to discuss the new format shortly and will be in contact if any opportunity arises for your car club to participate.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused you and your members.

The committee will arrange an alternative event to be held on Sunday 18 April 2015.

Kind regards,
AMCCA Committee
