BIRMINGHAM, MI- General Motors Co. is using the 2012 Woodward Dream Cruise to celebrate the 60th anniversary of one of its most celebrated vehicles in history: the Chevrolet Corvette.
Throughout the week leading up to today, the Detroit-based automaker held numerous events showcasing its products, but nothing like the celebration today in Birmingham for the famed sports car.
Chevrolet, presenting sponsor of the Dream Cruise, celebrated the anniversary with life-size Corvette timeline, including milestone Corvettes and engines from the marque’s 60-year history and Detroit Graffiti artist Shades painting a large Corvette-inspired graffiti mural.
“The Woodward Dream Cruise is a true celebration of America’s love affair with the automobile and the open road, and for Chevrolet it is an opportunity for us to connect with some of our most passionate consumers and their families,” said Chris Perry, Chevrolet global vice president of marketing, in a statement earlier this week.
The Corvette activities, as well as numerous other GM displays are scheduled to continue until 9 p.m., which is the “official” end to this year’s Dream Cruise.

The annual Woodward Dream Cruise is the world’s largest one-day classic car event. More than one million visitors and 40,000 antique and classic cars are expected for the event, which stretches 16 miles from 8 Mile Road in Detroit to downtown Pontiac.
This is the second consecutive year Chevrolet has been presenting sponsor of the Dream Cruise.
