79 Trams am things

Morning all,

I have a friend in the US looking at a 79 Trams Am, Daytona and wanted to know what things he should be looking for that could cause problems.  There are the usual culprits like, gutters, floor pans and rear window, but what else checked now can save heartache later.

Any help would be appreciated.

I'd say 2 things.

Make sure the car drives well. By 1979, GM had been producing 2nd gens for 9 years and worked out all of the 'bugs'.  A good '79 Firebird or Camaro is a nice car to drive.

The other thing would be to buy the best car he can afford, assuming he's looking for something that is ready to go.  It's false economy to buy something to fix up cheaply and then restore it.  Of course, if he want a fixer upper, that's another story.

Going well mate.  Sorry, life has been crazy here building houses, working crazy hours etc.  LUCFR hasn't missed a beat and love driving her, but, it will be coming off the road in the future for a re-build/tidy up so, it's time (and with permission) to buy something else to drive, hence this Q.  (sorry if I confused everyone)

The guy I bought LUCFR off is looking at a car for me to add to the stable so I need a guide for him on where to look.  It's a #'s match, 4 spd, paperwork car with an apparent 44K on the clock.

Any more help would be appreciated. :fingers:

Well, looks like there is no new toy in the shed.  What was described just didn't quite add up.  The most important thing for me was my bad gut feeling.  Oh well, these is always another car and I'm in no hurry.  Thanks for the assist to all I spoke to.
