« on: May 13, 2010, 06:13:06 PM »
I have posted this cause in the past when I of others have asked for an indication on costs to inport a vechile the answer have been confusing for me at least.
I had a freind find and purchase a F100 truck for me from the USA and for an indication of all the fees and charges incumbent in the overall purchase the final figure is as follows.

Cost of vechile in AU dollars  $9451.08
Cost of all the charges including everything else un AU dollars. $7531.89

Give us a breakdown on the cost that way we can pinpoint where the extra charge is. Sounds like a bit on the high side because the people i use generally charge around $5000-$5500 all up based on the same value.
If the vehicle originates from the east coast it can add an extra US$1000-US$1500 to transport it to LA for shipping.

That would be about right if you're talking fully registered and on the road.
I've done it 3 times now.
Shipping including insurance to Sydney from LA including Customs & maybe cleaning to keep the quarantine guys happy...say $4,000 - $4,200
Transport from east coast to LA...approx $1,300 enclosed or roughly half that on an open transporter.
GST 10% on arrival. $100 - $200 to transport from the yard to home.
So that F100 should cost approx $6500 to land and transport to your door (in Sydney) if it was an east coast, trucked enclosed vehicle.
Add on weighbridge, blue slip, green-slip, rego and stamp duty and $7,500 is real close.

Generaly it is cheaper if you use someone that charges a all up fee including unpacking , like the guy you use and mick and yvette ( us muscle cars ) as they have there own yard to unpack ,when you get someone to just organise shipping at the US end you then need to get a yard here to un pack the car , in my case price and speed , i was very happpy with there service and i'm sure the others i have mentioned are the same , it will work out dearer for me but the person who organised the shipping for me in the US inspected the car and paid for the car got the car picked up and transported to the port, and with the amount of scams going on at the moment it is worth every cent more i am going to pay.
I will be more than happy to list a break down of my costs once i get all the invoices, don't get me wrong if i was buying a car from a trusted seller in the US i would have used mick and yvette hands down.

I used Mick and Yvette to bring my car in and it was pretty much one flat rate, with that customs duty bs on top. All round was the easiest thing ive done as they take care of it all for ya :fantastic:
