Hey Lad's,

Something I learnt toady after talking to Yvette.

"Note that if goods are over $1000 value you will be charged

Customs fee to the amount of approx $489 + gst + possible duties."

"You may be liable to pay Duty on goods if applicable, all goods attract GST over $1000 value (USD value converted back to AUD with Shipping and Insurance added to final Customs value. Goods over $1000 will attract approx. $489.00 in fees, these fees are per supplier invoice.(ie 3 x supplier invoices over $1000 each will attract the above fee from Customs and Aqis)"

Yep, Customs are without doubt a bunch of scammer, thieving $^%&*#&^@#^(*  :thank:

After you hit the $1000AUD value, you get hit with 5% Duty (calculated on the $1000 plus a VOTY figure that Customs magically come up with), then 10% GST (on the value + the Duty), plus the Customs paperwork fee, and if the item is 2nd hand you'll also wear the AQIS inspection fee (huge)....plus the freight operator's charges etc.

Trick would be to get your US supplier to split the invoice, and freight the item in two consignments if possible......keep the costs below $1000AUD on each consignment.

 Hi Jethro
Welcome to our governments initiative of helping small businesses. They have abolished import duties between US and OZ about 20 years ago to encourage importation of foreing goods but they did not tell you about the GST component introduced about the same time, did they? Mongrels! Other words we are paying the same what we did before. Correct me if i am wrong. It's all dammed politics to me.   I voted for the gay/lesbian party. :bolt:
