Title: Experiences with fibreglass bonnets,
Post by: Muzzy 66 on March 02, 2011, 06:43:01 PM
After a bit of feedback from people with after market fibreglass bonnetts,Or standard...

Im concerned about the life and the bonnetts ability to remain as was painted/finished for a period of time.

Im concerned mainly with cracking naturally and the blistering/deformations of paint from the heat over time.

Any feedback would be great.

I'm going to be getting a fiberglass hood made up for my '60...cause you just can't get them anymore...

I know one thing I am worried about will be cracking.....so I will be taking the springs out of the hinges....and have to have a hood prop of some sort to hold it open.

WhenI had my Vette years ago....  I had no probs with heat affecting the hood at all.

Hi Muzzy 66

I have put a fiberglass bonnet  with a metal base on my car so far so good.

It did need some extra sanding and filling so that it could come out straight.

You realize you cant stir me for having a Plastic Fantastic if you get the hood! You probably only will get cracking if you havent got enough bracing and experience twisting of the body, but you guys wouldnt know anything about that!(.....its called Horsepower!)

You are a bad boy Andy!...Picking on theme poor 289 ci Mustang boys again.
I think what they trying to do is make them as light as possible so at least brake some traction on a rainy day at their local traffic light to impress the schoolie girls standing by....:rol:

I know that I had to change the springs, I seen one at the all ford day and the bonnet had a distinctive bow in it, the springs were too hard, see Kerry he will be the best for this advice,
