I picked up the new engine yesterday.
It was a painless operation from start to finish.
Whilst I can't see myself importing anything this large again any time soon, if or when I do, you'll definately have my business.
Thanks again.
Chris.
P.S. The engine's still in the big plywood crate, in the back of my trailer, in the garage, so no photos yet - but it is a nice crate.
-
Hi Chris,
Great to hear, is it going to have lots of shiny bits on it?
-
It came with chrome rocker covers, the rest is painted Pontiac engine blue. Any bling will make the rest of the car look daggy, so I'll be keeping it to a minimum.
-
Hi Chris,
Great to hear, is it going to have lots of shiny bits on it?
You bet!......it's a Pontiac, it won't perform so might as well chrome it

I think Mickey Thompson would disagree when he set the world land speed record with a Pontiac powered car - for those of us old enough to remember.
BTW, I don't recall seeing any Pontiacs in your workshop? Does that mean they're just better than everything else??:shades:
-
Mr Bonnevista i seen your engine when i picked up my HEMI its amazing how small it looks compared to a HEMI the Create should make a good garden Nome:drink:
-
I have to give credit to the Mustang crowd....they do drive their cars more often, that's why i work on them all the time.
As for Pontiacs.... most of them ended up in museums or Simsmetal. The ones left on the road would not make the distance to my workshop. :rol:

The Mustang crowd drive their cars more often than who? The Model T Ford Club, the Goggomobile Club.??
I know we have some guys here with Mustangs, and they put some milage on them, but I wouldn't consider Mustang owners in general as the 'lets get out and drive around' sort of enthusiast.
Gee, I must have been lucky with my '64 Bonneville, seeing as I put 200,000 miles on it myself in 10 years. I don't know how many miles it had on it before I got it.
Is 200,000 miles a lot compared to the Mustang guys?? I wonder.
As far as ending up in museums, I think your pine lime splice mopar would qualify as a museum piece, considering the milage it doesn't do.:shades:

Your Hermi would want to be bigger, considering the price.
Also, considering the traditional Pontiac V8 started life as a 287, they must have used some Dr. Who technology to get 455 cubic inches out of the same block.
:yeah:

Mr Bonnevista i was not knocking the PONTIAC engine just comparing size , You know why the MOPAR engine is bigger Because they COST twice as F$$$$$G much:lol::lol: $20,000 for 700hp was a pretty good deal as you can not build one for that price :drink: we need more PONTIAC dudes in this club so we can GEE them up TOO , good to see you drive your car every day as we all should be driving AMERICIAN left hand drive cars Everyday :bow::bow::lol::lol::lol::bolt:

i read this thread and all i read is blah blah blah !!!:drink:

Oh by the way i took the oppurtunity to do a fuel consumption test on sharons oldsmobile on the way to canberra on the weekend , after travelling 190 miles approx 305km the big girl took 45 litres and was spilling over so if my math is correct it did around 15 litres per 100km not bad for a rocket................................ oh so where were we again , something about hemi's and pontiacs..................nah you guys need a OLDSMOBILE ROCKET MOTOR.

Ahhh the Flying Mechanic has pushed some sensitive buttons here!!! Luckily Mustang owner/drivers don't need to prove anything but enjoy the stats and facts and challenges put out above.:rol:
-
Hey chris(sms) make sure you look carefully when your crossing any roads , there could be a pontiac coming your way :rol::rol::rol:
-
Thats about the same as me Christ! 45 litres and better on the way home from Canberra, How did the other cars go on fuel? Just curious!

Stats and facts - according to the flying mechanic, you own a car that has to be in the workshop all the time to keep it on the road.
Self praise is no recomendation.

 Not self praise - reality. Didn't realise personal mods (not new engines) was about "keeping it on the road" - the flying mechanic can testify the mods are "my choice" nothing to do with roadworthiness??
-
yeah all us Pontiac guys do is put fuel in them and drive them..funny about that!!!... Cant remember the last time my Pontiac was in the shop..:boxing:

Nah, the above requires a response. Potatoes were usually driven by little old ladies. They didn't have a hard life on the race track, drag strips or street racing. Most of the Fords imported into
Australia require a complete restoration because they were out there being driven hard and winning. Eddie:shades:
A mobile block of flats with tennis court and swimming pool aint gonna cut it on the street, strip or track.

So, it sounds like you're saying, that they're that crummy to drive as standard cars, you have to modify them to make them bearable??
My new engine is just replacing the original 1972 engine that's never been touched. It still runs fine, but it's just worn out.

Now, there's an informed opinion. I suppose you're forgetting about a certain car called the GTO? Yeah, a "little old ladies" car all the way!!
My "mobile block of flats" cuts it just fine anywhere and everywhere I drive it. I own my block of flats because it's the car I wanted. If I wanted something else, I'd own it.:kick:
Anyway, as far as little old ladies are concerned, according to Jan and Dean,
The little old lady from Pasadena,
Has a pretty little flower bed of white gardenias,
But parked in her rickety old garage
Is a brand new shiny red Super Stock Dodge.
Go granny, go granny, go granny go.

How about "Little GTO" by Jan & Dean BV? Each to his own but I don't think G.M. have won Le Mans three times as Ford has albeit with the help of Lola and others. Then, of course, there's the innumerable F1 victories of the Cosworth-Ford engine. Plus the '70 Trans Am title. I believe AMC scored more points than the G.M. products in the final year of the series. By the way, I like your car. It must be a b..... to park though. Eddie :shades:
-
This post is crap guys It started out saying thanks to Mick and Yevette for a job well done then turned to crap.
This is a mixed make club so get over it.

Little GTO was Ronnie and the Daytonas.
It's not really hard to park and it goes through the drive through at McDonalds. Once upon a time, in the US, everyone drove cars that size. Remember that giant station wagon Carol Brady of the Brady Bunch drove?
-
Apologies for stealing the thread but once upon a time people had conversations. Remember them. BTW the variety of cars is what attracted me to the club in the first place. An unending diet of Mustangs is a bit like bread & water, boring. Eddie
