Title: Wiping out evil...
Post by: bonnevista on December 23, 2009, 03:08:06 PM
...one Ford at a time.

To do this, you have to start small and work your way up.

I pinched this from the Performance Years site.

Enjoy!

Whilst a Mustang might be a granny car to start with (by your own admission), it's clearly not anymore.

A quote from the PY site regarding this vehicle.

The car runs very well, he originally built it for SCAA competition, it has front struts and a wild suspension. It's a race car with a license plate. It has a eaerly 400 block in it, I think it has a custom ground flat tappet cam.

Slow it up by putting that engine in it???

YEAH RIGHT!!

So if i take a hyundai to the drags does that make it a race car with number plates, me think not.

If you were really serious about going to all that trouble for some power, there are a lot of motors knocking out more horses that a Ponti 400.
Possibly was the only one that would fit, seeing as 65/66 mustangs are smaller in the engine bay.
Would have no hope of getting a Ford or Chev BB in there without carrying out some major surgery.

Try entering that same Hyundai in a SCCA event and see how you go.

Now Furd owners pay close attention, apart from the late '70's 265 and 301 engines, all the other Pontiac engines share the same sized block, all the way from 287 cubic inches in 1955, up to 455 cubic inches that was introduced in 1970. So, there's no 'big block' and 'small block' Pontiacs.  The heads from a 287 will bolt onto a 455 and vice versa.
So I reckon the reason he went with a 400 - any bigger and the car would break in half the first time he side stepped the clutch.

I guess the 2V 289 had a bit much grunt & he wanted to make it more streetable. He could have achieved a similar result by just buying a T code 6cyl. You can lead a horse to water...................

Someone should fix that quote thing.

Very impressivle looking engines Joe.
Butler Aluminium block, Tiger heads ,BOP intake, very nice.
As you maybe aware i don't know the ducks guts on Ponti's, so could you please explain which part of that motor is actaully a Pontiac produced part ?

It all depends on power to weight ratio, any engine will annilate it's opponent when mounted in an "engine stand"

Well, that's my problem then.  Maybe that engine in my car shouldn't have been sitting in that engine bay for the past 38 years actually driving the car around.

And while you're there, in my Summit catalogue, I noticed the World Products engine, that they say is "based on a Ford".
They list the parts, but I don't see too many (none actually) genuine blue oval parts in that either.
