up date Entry Closed
We’ve closed the online car entry to the Famous Pacific Shipping Beach Hop 2008 and there will be no late entries. At this stage we have issued car decal 1265 – and there may be a few still in the mail. Motorbikes can register each morning at the Surf Club from Wednesday 30th April. We plan to start posting out the entry packs towards the end of next week – we’ll let you know when. Enclosed will be an instruction sheet (PLEASE READ IT!), vinyl window decal, swing tags, Castrol lanyard and Meguiars brochure with hints on how to get your car looking sharp for the Festival.

Entry Summary
We’ve put an interim summary on our website check out http://www.beachhop.co.nz/entry_summary.htm
Here’s a snapshot:-
  239 Pre-1949 Cars
  569 Fords
  326 Chevs
  64 Cadillacs
  112 Mustangs

Give Away Engine
The engine we are going to give away to a car entrant is now finished and you can check it out here http://www.nz-hotrod.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=36423#post36423
Colin Willoughby from Comtech has just sent through some photos of the finished engine that will be given away to an ENTRANT on Sunday 4th May around Noon. This draw will be based on the window decal/swing tag of the driver - and they MUST be present to claim the prize.

You have no idea of the work Colin has put into this engine. What started off as a good idea turned into a bit of a nightmare.... but the end results sure speak for themselves. Our thanks to Mark at Wade Automotive Engine Reconditioners in Pukekohe for the machining, ACL for the pistons, bearings, rings, gaskets, Pioneer Autoparts for the inlet manifold, carb and bling and Colin for the fuelie heads, cam etc and or course his expertise.

AA 101 Must Do Weekends
The Beach Hop has been selected in the latest tourism promotion run by the AA of 101 Must Do weekends! Check it out here http://www.aatravel.co.nz/101/reviews-photos.php?section=Weekends&101Id=Whangamata-Beach-Hop-2

Meguiar's Competition
The Smits Group/Meguiar's support team will be at the Hop all weekend to offer advice on how to get the best look with House of Kolor and Meguiar's products. There will be heaps of new products and some fantastic weekend specials and for a lucky person, Smits Group is giving away a huge car care pack worth over $1,000 containing all of your favourite Meguiar’s and Glass Science products. To enter the competition, just look for the Meguiar’s tent – it’ll be popping up everywhere throughout the weekend. The prize will be drawn on Sunday afternoon and the lucky winner will be notified by email.

Jennian Homes 60s Surf Competition
Entry forms are now on our website http://www.beachhop.co.nz/images/stories/surf%20comp%20entry%20form.pdf
Entry is limited to just 40 – so you better be quick! And look at the prizes – thanks to Jennian Homes there is a draw for a flat screen TV from the 40 entrants, $1000 prize money across the 2 age groups and the Whanga Bar is putting up a $500 tab for the winner of the Paddle Race! Oh - and you get a really cool free T shirt! How's that for $40?

Makita Give Away Car
The Pontiac is certainly getting out and about! Congrat’s to the Scoungers for their AWESOME "Hot Rod Blow Out" show last weekend. We’re taking the Pontiac along to the Bay Rodders Nostalgia Drags this coming Sunday at Fram Autolite Dragway and will be putting it through it’s paces. Don’t worry – we won’t thrash it!

The Red Shift
Have you caught this show yet? Episode 4 starts on Sky Sport 2 Thursday night and will feature the suspension changes we made to the Pontiac. We’ve had great feedback about the show and how informative it has been. Thanks to Cal and his crew for getting our lifestyle onto Television in such a positive context. Check out the Red Shift website for more info http://www.theredshift.co.nz/

Have fun!

Just got back Tuesday had a ball, over two thousand cars showed up at Whangamata wall to wall US muscle. All Aussies at the beach hop received an Aussie card like the one in the first picture, and if you stand on the round-about on the Saturday the cars in the cruise will pick you up and will cruise the local town. How's that for hospitality. Friday night had a barbecue with the boys from AMCCNZ, great bunch of blokes promise to be in touch with us through our forum. Cruised on saturday in Rob's (from AMCCNZ) shelby built GT500 Mustang. Here's some pics. Joe
