Windows 10

Anybody out there uploaded the new versions of windows 8 yet.. .. getting the pestering pop up's urging me to do it. but listening to some radio commentators and web gurus its not apparently a good move.  Anybody done it yet..?

If you are using Windows 8.1 at the moment it is definately a good move, Windows 10 is a lot faster and you get a better menu.

Things to consider are that Microsoft will disable any pirated or copied software that you have on your computer such as illegal copies of Microsoft Office.

There are also some privacy concerns in regards to your data because big brother now has access to it if they feel the need to.

If you are okay with the above info and you are running Windows 8.1 in my opinion its a no brainer, you should upgrade.

Some privacy concerns.. as Windows stores all your acitivity..your emails.. your passwords etc..
It also disconnects all your out of date or pirated copies of anything or anything that it can't see a valid authorization code for
A contact in perth has both now a virus and windows 10 install corrupted (apparently) her system to the point of not being usable now.
VPNs look out too apparently.

DVD's...If you want to watch a DVD on your newly updated Windows 10 machine, you won't be happy to hear that Microsoft will soon want you to pay for the privilege.

According to multiple reports from Windows users, Microsoft requires you download the Windows DVD Player app from the Windows 10 Store to play DVDs. The app is currently “free for a limited time”, but doesn't specify how long the offer will last. Only in its FAQ section does it state that “it will end at or before the free Windows 10 upgrade offer”.

It seems that, once the free offer has finished, Microsoft will charge $US14.99 to use Windows DVD player.

i ran it for about 2 weeks and kept having issues over my windows so uninstalled it maybe down the track when it works properly.....

If you want to play DVD's using Windows 10 there is a free DVD player available called VLC Player, it works well and has been around for a long time.

You can download it here http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.html  the Installer Package is the easiest to download and install.

Guys, I've been in IT for 26 years, I've been using computers since the Apple II, Commodore 64 and Atari 2600 was king.

Nothing... I mean NOTHING beats a Macintosh.
Sure, they have their issues as well, but a LOT less painful.

I am currently developing software for Mac and Windows and within the Windows world, there is never ending dramas. Why? Issues with 32 or 64 bit versions, issues with 3rd party software, network mapping vs network paths, viruses and so on. The only great thing about Windows is that it was created a huge industry for support people to make money out of.

Windows PC's - you might be able to buy a cheap one and work on it yourself, but let's face it, just like cars, most are designed NOT to be "fixable" or "worked on". Take a look at products like the Surface. This is the way all computers are going... this is the way Apple have been doing it for many years.

I'm still using XP.  Apart from some slowness (also attributable to a 13 year old computer), I don't really have any issues.

I find that the best thing to do is run XP within virtualisation. When I have to use Windows on my Mac, I use XP within virtualisation. You can do the same on newer PC's, you get the benefit of the speed on new PC's that way.
