things that go pop
« on: May 31, 2015, 07:24:47 PM »
simple mistake, in order to get the car into my garage, I usually hook the steering to the right and turn it... the other night I pulled into my garage a little too close to the left hand side of the garage door frame, so I hooked the steering down left and reversed, in order to get closer to the right... but in doing so, I got my front tyre hooked onto the little latch that normally holds the garage door closed, so when I reversed...

pop... it was a brand new tyre as well !

I Feel for you Zoltan, A few years back I clipped the brickwork with the rear quarter of the Mustang just above the wheel arch while reversing into the garage in the wet.
A expensive lesson in always watching very carefully when reversing

I emphathise... I'm not sure what you drive, but I've found the combination of precious metal, heavy C pillars, Tiny door mirrors, low seating positions, long doors etc make it a challenge to manoeuvre a muscle car in a confined area. I find breathing in when I reverse into the garage hard up against the wall makes the car just that little bit narrower. My spotter also prefers offering vague directions preferable to allowing $$ to be spent on panel work!
