The 1961 Chrysler 300G is a walloping ground missile

Classic ad ties big Chrysler to stock-car triumphs

What's the first thing the  image of a big Chrysler racing on the sand calls to mind?
Gotta say I'd like one  of these also.. its on the bucket list....

To us, it's Daytona '55 -- a race dominated by the brawny-yet-sophisticated C300. And we weren't even alive back then. We imagine the link was even more obvious to enthusiasts shopping for luxury tourers in 1961, just a few years after the C300's successful NASCAR run.

By 1961, of course, racing on the beach was gone, and 300s weren't winning the Daytona 500. But the Chrysler letter series was still going strong. The black-and-white ad below highlights the 300G's “walloping getaway” and “ground-missile acceleration.”

We've never piloted one of these truly grand grand tourers, but we're persuaded to believe the hyperbolic advertising copy by the massive 413-cubic-inch V8 under that long hood. History seems to back up this judgment: A 300G driven by Gregg Ziegler won the '61 Daytona Flying Mile with an average two-way speed of 143 mph.

Let's hope this ground missile's brakes are as good as its powerplant.

... wonder if I can make drop a late hint for Fathers day  on this one.. just a LOVELY piece of automotive history and design... so much of today life is grey &  beige ..but not this cruiser...
