Hal Needham Makes an Appearance at the 2013 Bandit Run!
« on: June 21, 2013, 11:00:19 AM »

The Bandit Run is one of those events that our magazine seriously, seriously, seriously, needs to attend in the flesh to do it any justice. Since 2007, Trans Am-o-philes have been tearing up the tarmac across the country to commemorate the Smokey and the Bandit film from 1977.

What initially started as a Firebird or Trans Am-only party, has morphed into an “all cars welcomed” event over the course of the last seven years. We dig it, and we would love to take part in this years event. But since it’s not until the middle of July, that doesn’t mean it’s too late for some of you to register.

Despite the fact that it’s open to pretty much any type of car, be forewarned that the event is still based around the Pontiac Trans Am, particularly the late-seventies era cars. So if you’re a Mustang purist, you might want to reconsider going.

We discussed this event with all of you before, but if you think it’s a slow news day and we’re simply regurgitating old stories, you better think again! We just found out today that Hal Needham, the writer and director of Smokey’, and close personal friend of Burt Reynolds will be at this year’s show for a meet and greet with the fans and attendees.

Now we really wish we could make it, and in case you haven’t heard, Needham has finally received an Academy Award for the film, albeit, an honorary one. It only took thirty-five years, after all.
