We told you earlier that a feature film based on the legendary team-up of drag racers Don "The Snake" Prudhomme and Tom "Mongoose" McEwen was in the works.
Now, we're proud to report that this film--in drag racer's terms--has had its Hemis bolted together, the bodies lowered onto the frames, the drivers suited up and belted in, and is sitting in the staging lanes.
In other words, it's headed for the big screen very soon.....
Based on the true story of the greatest rivalry in the world of drag racing, Snake and Mongoo$e debuts this August in select cities, and in many more cities on September 6th.
Set in the late 60s and early 70s, it features Don (“The Snake”) Prudhomme and Tom (“The Mongoo$e”) McEwen , who were fierce rivals on the track, but best friends in life. It takes viewers far beyond the thrill of the track. It is a compelling action drama that depicts Prudhomme and McEwen’s personal triumphs and tragedies, as well as their deal with Mattel that revolutionized sports marketing.
In 1969, they pitched Mattel on a Hot Wheels sponsorship and cross-promotion deal, where Mattel would fund the creation of their new Plymouth-bodied, Hemi-powered Funny Cars, in exchange for Don and Tom putting the Mattel logo on their cars, and match-racing each other at dragstrips around the country.
The movie stars Jesse Williams (Grey’s Anatomy) as Don “The Snake” and Richard Blake (Dragonball: Evolution) as Tom “Mongoose” McEwen.
It also stars Noah Wyle (Falling Skies) and Tim Blake Nelson (Lincoln), Ashley Hinshaw, Ian Ziering and Fred Dryer, among others. The film was written by Alan Paradise, an esteemed automotive journalist and produced by Robin Broidy of Entertainment Universe.
