Ford Plotting “2014.5” Edition Or Not?
« on: December 13, 2012, 08:02:04 AM »
In April of 1964 Ford began selling the Mustang coupe to a public that quickly fell in love. Yet because the Mustang went on sale in the spring, as opposed to the fall when most new cars were made available for purchase, gearheads took to calling it the “1964 ½” Mustang. Because of that, there have been rumors floating around the Internet that Ford was plotting a “1964 ½” special edition of the Mustang.

Well due to some mis-communication among Ford representatives, it seems like that little rumor has been squashed. It’s a shame too, as it would be a nod to the non-official nomenclature surrounding America’s favorite pony car.

The rumor began with a thread at TheMustangSource.com, where a Ford rep said that their computer showed a “2014 ½” Mustang special edition order that will service as the 50th anniversary model. With production of the 2014 Mustang beginning this week, people were wondering…would Ford create a special anniversary model for the 50th year of production?

Well here’s the thing…the “1964 ½” Mustang was always officially sold as a 1965 Mustang. So, while the Mustang did debut oat an odd time of year, Ford will be following the official company timeline. That means the 1965 model year, going on sale in the spring of 2014, will be the official 50th anniversary. With the 2014 Mustang order guide already online, it looks like the current Mustang will exit quietly and gracefully…leaving room for the fireworks sure to in store for the 2015 Mustang.

Do you think Ford should have done a 2014 ½ Mustang? Or is it better to wait for the all-new Mustang?
