Hollywood hasn’t exactly been cranking out great automotive movies the past few years. While the trainwreck series known as the Fast and the Furious continues with one sequel after another, the number of authenticate car movies seems to be dwindling…and fast. But all hope is not lost fellow car enthusiasts!
A new movie is on the horizon, and it is based on the true story of two of the most popular and wild drag racers from the golden age of quarter-mile action. The movie, “Snake and Mongoose”, follows the meteoric rise of Don “The Snake” Prudhomme and Tom “The Mongoose” McEwen as their on track rivalry clashed with their off-track friendship.
The Snake and The Mongoose are perhaps the first American drag racers to become international stars, thanks in large part to a sponsorship deal with Hot Wheels. Launched as a competitor to the Matchbox line of Toy Cars, Hot Wheels were more outlandish, and required big personalities like those of Snake and Mongoose to sell them.
The 'Cuda and Duster that created the most famous rivalry in drag racing history. The movie, which is largely an independent production, lacks any big name star power, but that doesn’t mean it won’t be a great watch. This is one of those movies that sort of writes itself, as the true story is very engaging. For gearheads and racing enthusiasts, this appears to be just the sort of flick we were waiting for. “Snake & Mongoose” is set to hit theaters sometime in 2013, and after seeing this trailer, you’ll agree with us that next year can’t come soon enough.
