I went to a spray painter this morning to check out prices to take the car back to metal, treated for any rust (only know of a couple of spots so far) and re-sprayed.  I was blown away by the price........ $25K - $35K.  Depending on what he found when it's rubbed back.

Is it just me or is that too much?

If it's about right then I guess my car will stay original forever.

Shop around, there is a place in Sth Windsor that does good work for much less than that...however he has a waiting list!

Sorry, name I can't remember.

If you check the name of the guys in my post above...my estimate (not a quote) for a bare metal respray is around $15K depending on whats under the paint when it comes off. Any panel shop that says they can quote you is not telling the truth...all they can do is give you an estimate until they see it in the bare metal.

Wreck-a-Mended do a lot of older classic cars....which is why I went to them...plus a recommendation from one of the club members who's used them before.

I'll bet the pinstriping came off for one of two reasons.....they didn't use wax 7 grease remover to clean the paint first, or they used cheap pinstriping.

Thanks Leigh and 68GTO. I'm looking into them as we speak.

Out of curiosity Leigh how long did yours take to complete please not counting the decals?

Hi Eddie.

It was Emu Plains Smash Repair.

There's probably people out there that would pay those kinds of dollars.  But to me it takes a long time to save up that kind of cash.
