Warning on problems with NRMA Roadside Assistance
« on: April 13, 2011, 10:43:19 PM »
Just wanted to give a heads-up on the shonky accident repair policy of the NRMA's roadside assistance.

If your vehicle is towed by the NRMA roadside assistance and has an accident or is damaged in any way while being towed, the NRMA will not allow you to have the repairs undertaken by a repairer of your choice.

They take the view that they are paying for the repairs and they will get it done by a repairer of their choice.

It is simply an unfair position by this corporate giant.

When you challenge them and mention that NRMA Insurance allows you to have a repairer of your choice they simply say that NRMA Roadside Assistance in a separate company from NRMA Insurance.

If they damage your classic car or hot rod while it is in their care (on the back of their truck) the NRMA Roadside Assistance people should agree to allow it to be repaired by a smash shop of your choice.......it should be a no brainer !!!!

For them to say "no sorry we will take your pride and joy to a repairer that suits us" is just scandalous behaviour by a large company.

NRMA Roadside Assistance will not listen to us on our damage claim seeking a 'repairer of our choice' so in frustration we are now placing the matter with our insurance company to fight the NRMA on our repair job.

Very interesting.  I'm also with NRMA roadside and the NRMA Classic Insurance.

Please keep us up to date on this.  I'm very keen to see the outcome.

Good luck!

If you're not insured with NRMA (which I'm not), how do they have any say in who repairs it when it falls of the back of their truck??

You don't buy a dog and then bark yourself.....
make a claim with your insurer, they will fix it to your satisfaction at repairer of choice then its up to them to chase the NRMA for the damage they caused.
No reason to deal with NRMA road service directly.
