Points to HEI

As you all know, I'm part way through putting a recoed 455 in my barge (I'd have had it mostly done by now if I didn't keep getting called into work:ripped:. )

I'm addressing the power supply to the HEI by using the original points wiring to a relay and using battery voltage to the new dizzy via that relay.

My question is, for ease of wiring location, can I use the back of the alternator to get my voltage, rather than the positive post of the battery?

No, just those people with bog stock 200hp engines, thinking that a $500 ignition is going to give them another 100hp.

The new HEI came with the new engine, I'd be nutty not to use it.

BTW, I've had an electronic points eliminator conversion in my dizzy for a couple of years.  It was only $60 from Summit. Made by Crane Cams.  Considering I was changing points and condenser 3 or 4 times a year (with every 5,000 mile service), it paid for itself after 2 services.

Hi Chris,
Sorry for late reply but your question got me thinking for a while, so after consulting with a few sparky friends of mine we came to the conclusion that what you want to do is no problem.
The only thing got me concerned if you had a built in regulator or external but apperently makes no difference.
I would check voltage from the relay though to make sure it is supplying 12 volts.
