I'm sure it would keep going for years, provided I was prepared to keep pouring 40W oil into it.  Besides, it's been too long since I've been able to do a decent burn out in it.

Bonnevista- I have a car you can borrow while you do the
transplant. It.s located at Windang and it just sits in the
garage all year and gets driven probably twice a year.
Its a mid size barge and yes it,s a V8 built in 1983.
It was originally LHD but now RHD.
You are quite welcome to borrow it, ring 42721830 business
hours.
Stuart.

Thanks for the offer Stuart.  Realistically, it's only a day or two job.  The last engine transplant I did (about 11 years ago on my '66 GTO) only took 8 hours from bonnet off to driving around, (still with the bonnet off) including time for lunch and coffee breaks, but there's a little more to this one, ie, air con, points to hei and LPG, but it'll be fine.

Ok Chris- You probably wouldn,t want to be seen driving
an old 83 Ferrari anyway.

Stu, you probably wouldn't be very happy when I parked it in Warrawong Westfield to do my shopping.
