Mustang Suspension and Rego
« on: August 12, 2010, 09:14:12 AM »
Ok so I have been looking at upgrading the full underneath of my car for a while now and have finally decided of what I want to do.

There has been a really good tech article on the mustang forum lately showing a 66 mustang undergo a full upgrade. This has given me ideas for my own.

I am currently tossing up whether to go for an air suspension all round or for coil overs all round. Either way here is the site where I will be purchasing my stuff from once I save up the cash.

Check it out

Now I am just wondering how easy or hard it will be to register a car with air suspension?? And has anyone had any issues with such a system on there car??

I'm leaning towards the coil overs but like the wank factor of having my car lower and raise whenever I want to

Any help or input would like great!!

I know you probably luv that little pony but I reckon you should start from scratch! and buy another mustang with a V8. Reason being, your pony was engineered to be a 6! so all your mechanicals are not able to handle much modification, yes it could handle some bags but any power adding could potentially become dangerous? unless you spend alot on strengthening. I'm not a Mustang expert but am I right,Pony experts?

Andy your kind of on the mark there but I will be strengthening things up. Generally there are not many differences between the V8 and 6 in the stang other than brakes and suspension. And funnily enough my car was manufactured as an 8 but a couple years later changed to a 6 (no idea why???)

The early mustangs were never that strong as there not a full chasis car, rather a unibody car which over time can cause them to sag and twist if not re-inforced. I will be joining the two frame rails that run half way down the car to give it a full chasis and also installing things like torque boxes and such. This will make it as strong as i possibly can and once this suspensions is added, it should be able to handle like it's on rails!!

But at the end of the day its a whole lot of work and is a good year or more off yet, need to plan this all out! oh and save up  haha

Go the coil overs. Just had the air shocks removed from mine and was never happy with it.
