SBC-68-FIREBIRD:
Thanks to everybody.
Chris,
I had my engine built 11years / 40000 miles ago & had it in my old Parisienne. When I done this car I put the engine in as it was which was the same bottom end but Dart Sportsman Heads, Camtech 236@50 solid flat tappet & Performer RPM intake. It also had an 11" GM converter worked up to supposedly 2800-3000 stall but was very in-efficient. It also ran twin 2.5" pipes into X-pipe, 2.5" Hooker Aero Chambers dumped in front of diff. The best the car ran was 12.6 @ 106mph & made 319rwhp.
I then pulled the engine out & fitted the AFR heads & match ported RPM Airgap intake & Comp Cams Hydraulic roller. Did not touch the bottom end. Had the car re-dyno'd & it made 383rwhp. Took it to the track & the best it ran was 12.0 @ 113mph.
Ended up getting the TCE converter currently in it & it ran 11.6 @ 117mph so it picked up 4 tenths & 4mph just by changing from a crap converter to a good converter.
I used to run my normal street tyres & M/T's on the back but got hold of a set of 15 x 4's for the front & it ran its best time at the Nostalgia's of 11.45 @ 118 mph.
Have just had the exhaust changed from the 2.5" up to 3" but this one is all mandrel bent with X-pipe, 3" Aero Chambers again & dumped in front of diff. I am yet to run it at the track but it does feel better with this exhaust & it is a tad louder :)

Converter's aint converter's , funny you say that about picking up the 4 tenths with the TCE converter , my old 351 had a cheap converter before i put a TCE one in and presto i picked up 4 tenths just from that aswell, i have fitted a electronic 4 speed auto in it since then , TCE could not make me a converter with a big enough stall so i had to get a precision industries converter from the states , its okay but i think the TCE is the best you can get, you must be rapt some impressive numbers there , my old 351 had 297hp @ wheels this motor on the same dyno made 407hp @ wheels but a unfortunate dyno accident made a mess of things , but we won't go there as the situation got a bit nasty
SBC-68-FIREBIRD:
Very happy with it so far. Am thinking about getting it on the dyno again just for a fuel mixture re-check after the exhaust change & maybe a power run just out of interest.
What gear ratio are you going for ? I would like to have 4.11's for the track but then a big PITA on the street so will stay with the 3.73 comprimise.

When the 9 inch comes ill be going for a 3.55 rear , i do more freeway driving with the missus so comfort is more important , with the overdrive and lock up converter should cruise at around 2000-2100 rpm at 100k's , 1st gear with this auto is 2.84 vs the old fmx of 2.40 so it will have alot more punch of the line so no need for silly rear end ratio's , this motor has alot of torque anyway so i don't want it to be a burnout machine :ban: hopefully santa will be nice to me this year and surprise me with a 9 inch
