I agree on both counts, but I guess if they're going to spring for the bill then they want to see the problem.  In fairness, the build quality is very good, I guess when you've got that much chaffing going on, it's incredible it lasted that long!

I agree on the other "kettles" you mentioned, have recently read some very unflattering stories on a very well known company whose products have given serious grief and the customer service was shameful.
