THE DETONATORS
Before Rock, there was Rockabilly, Blues and Rhythm n’ Blues. The Detonators, through their original songs, reinvent the styles that made the mid to late 50s such a vital time in music’s history. They play an era, not simply a genre. Australia's leading roots rockers release their fourth album/fifth release Top Night Out August 2007. The quartet’s original blend of blazing jump-rock blues is infused with the driving energy inherent in their heros’ music. Chuck Berry, Little Walter and Hound Dog Taylor are some of the influences that give this band their distinguished sound. Guitarist Paulie “The Kid” Bignell says playing authentically in such a stylistic manner is demanding. “With this style of music, even the tiniest mistake is really obvious. To come across well we have to play with exceptional precision; it’s not as easy as it sounds,” he says. Although their music is inspired by the 1950s era, Bignell argues that the songs have never been more relevant. “We sing about our experiences today,” Bignell says.
“The Detonators’ blazing jump-rock tunes are as slick as their teddy-boy quiffs ” - mX Newspaper.
JORDAN & THE ORIGINAL SIX
If a '59 Cadillac had strings being strummed by the ghost of Link Wray to an old Django Reinhardt melody on the radio as the car hurtled off the grand canyon, hitting a pile of double basses on impact, only then could you replicate the sordid tones that are ‘Jordan & the Original Six’. Analogies aside, the band can be best described as alternative, hot-rodded, Western Swing.
Jordan Colley is a gifted guitarist who has honed his skills in the fields of rockabilly, country, jazz and western swing. His abilities have led him to collaborate and perform with the artists and members of bands such as Noiseworks, the Ted Mulray Gang, The Radiators, members of the Brian Setzer Orchestra and Nekromantix, The Louisville Sluggers, The Nervous Wreckers and countless others. In December 2009 the band supported the USA's "Royal Crown Review" at the Metro Theatre in Sydney and had the whole room on their feet before the legends of Gangster Swing graced the stage. RCR's frontman Eddie Nichols said he dug the Original Six's style and even offered to provide a reference if ever required!
A young, yet entirely professional lineup, Jordan & the Original Six present a slick, and thoroughly enjoyable show every time they play.
