engine fan on a 5.0 L V8
« on: February 01, 2010, 04:05:04 PM »
Hi Guys I was wondering about if ford had an engine fan on the 5.0 L windsor V8, cause I am fitting a concept 1 pulley kit and it comes with the serpintine belt which apparently spins the water pump in the opposite direction to the motor direction.
am I making sense?
Cheers Hev

I believe and will stand corrceted.......

All serpentines spin the water pump backwards.  If using a serpentine you need to fit a reverse rotation water pump, NOT a reverse flow water pump.

But you question seems to be to do with the fan........  It would have to be a reverse [strike]bitch[/strike] pitch fan , NOT reverse air flow.  If you use a reverse [strike]bitch[/strike] pitch fan on a standard pump with standard rotation it wont work.

Does that help?

When the water is circulating the colder water is sucked, so to speak, from the bottom of the radiator up into the pump and then through the block/heads and returned to the top of the radiator.

Unless you have a reverse flow block, the water flow through the block is BASICALLY always in the same direction.

In standard block configuration the water pump always pumps the water in the same direction.  The direction that the pump spins does not matter as long as the pump is designed to pump the water as described above.  Both clockwise and counter-clockwise spinning pumps will bump the water in the same direction if so designed to.

Where you have to be careful is that you don't end up with a reverse flow pump on a block that is not designed to have one.

As stated before, I'll stand corrected but the above is my understanding of how it works.

Hope this helps.
