Buick V\'s Pontiac .. which one goes first

.....an interesting comment attributed to GM's struggle with what has come down to Brand Recognition ....reflected below...

Of interest, a very timely analysis of GM's "mid-priced" problem by an intuitive young lady named Kate McLeod from the internet newsletter Car Connection.  What she says about Buick could certainly be applied to Pontiac.  What she doesn't seem to want to recognize is that GM cannot afford to drop the "stand-alone" Buick or Pontiac Dealer without having to face the reality of buying them out satisfactorily or an ugly lawsuit.

GM is contractually bound to provide vehicles for these Dealers.  Their other answer is to merge enough of the Buick and Pontiac outlets to the point where they can drop either Buick or Pontiac passenger cars and trucks without facing buyout or lawsuit.

Just looking at the model year 2006 numbers (Buick under 300,000, Pontiac under 450,000) certainly confirms that neither of these makes should be allowed to exist for future GM Corp. health.
