Hi Hev, you may be able to buy a decent forged set and avoid the extra cost and effort.  I've got Wiseco forged pitstons, I'm sure they were picked to be robust and have a long service life. Hope it goes well!

I have run them in many a V8 and even a turbo charged harley[mate that got hot,some times ran 22psi boost] with no problems at all.

Well the 289 is in the hole, alot slower but never the less still im mobile again.
