Decoding Aussie Chev Engine numbers?

Hey, is anyone on here any good at decoding Aussie Chev engine numbers?

I have found one that has the engine number 9V170639 on it and I just wanted some info about it.

You really need the casting numbers from the block & heads to know what it is.See link below

Great resource. Thank you. I will have to go back to the car and try and get the casting numbers of the back of the engine then...I was hoping to avoid that :o)
